Chinzan was influenced by a Chinese style of painting called 'Nagasaki' in Japan because that was the city where this style was first imported. One characteristic feature of the Nagasaki style was the elimination of the black line which had been used to outline objects in previous styles. Eliminating the black outline made objects look more realistic. After Chinzan's death some examples of his artwork were published in woodblock-printed picture books.
